In cold weather, we provide a gritting service across many outdoor communal or shared areas where a service charge is in place.

Gritting in outdoor communal or shared areas
As well as gritting pathways, we also supply grit bins and the grit itself – the service charge covers the cost of the bins and grit. We don’t offer gritting to areas where a service charge isn’t in place.
We use ‘white grit’ where available as sometimes the orange grit can stain the carpets in indoor communal or shared areas.
We top up the grit regularly so there’s always a supply in the bins and we fully restock it in late September/October in case of an early severe frost or snow.
When and how we spread the grit
We spread grit when we expect a prolonged spell of freezing weather. Where possible, we clear a pathway of about 1.2 metres wide for wheelchair access.
In freezing conditions, our first advice to customers is to only go out if it’s safe to do so. If you can avoid going out in these conditions that’s always the safest option.
Gritting in extreme weather
If the weather is very extreme, we may not be able to get to you. On the rare occasion this happens you’re welcome to use the grit in our bins for the pathways, if it’s safe for you to do so.
