You need to meet certain criteria to be eligible to apply for social housing.
Whilst each Council has its own criteria, here are some guidelines about who can apply for social housing. You need to:
- Be over 18
- Have the right to reside in the UK – this depends on your immigration status
- Have a need for social housing. This might include being homeless or needing to move for a medical reason etc.
- Provide references from a previous landlord
- Have no previous history of anti-social behaviour (ASB)
- Be able to afford to pay rent
- Have a local connection such as family or work in the area (this is only applicable in certain areas)
