Over the last few weeks, many of us have been reminded of the endless hits of Dolly Parton, a musical icon who has provided the soundtrack to so many of our lives. But at Leeds Federated, we’ve been remembering her for her incredible legacy in the literacy world: The Imagination Library.

Inspired by her father’s struggle to read and the impact it had on his ability to fulfill his dreams, Dolly was on a mission to make sure every child has the opportunity to discover a love of reading.

The Imagination Library is a global, early-years reading initiative that gifts children aged 0-5 who are enrolled in the library one book a month until their fifth birthday, for free!

Making a difference

In July, we celebrated one year of the Imagination Library pilot in East Leeds, working in partnership with Community Learning Partnerships (delivery partner), Clarion Housing Group, Places for People and Yorkshire Housing. Together, we’ve donated 486 books so far, with even more to come. The pilot has received positive feedback from families. One parent said:

If you live in an LS8, LS9, LS14, or LS15 postcode, then you might be eligible to receive free books as part of the East Leeds Imagination Library.
