Electrical safety is about making sure the wiring, switches and sockets in your home are safe and in good working order.

Faulty electrics cause fires and electric shocks. You can work with us to help keep your electrics safe.
Signs of an electrical problem include:
- Flickering or dimming lights
- Sparks from a socket or appliance
- A persistent burning smell
- Fuses blowing or circuit breakers tripping frequently
What we do:
- Electric safety checks: We carry out a full electrical safety check in your home every five years. This is known as an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). As part of the EICR, we check all the wiring, sockets and electrical circuits in your home to make sure they’re safe.
- Repairs and upgrades: Following the EICR, we’ll carry out any necessary repairs to meet the latest safety standards.
- Electrical upgrades: We proactively carry out upgrades in your homes as part of our planned maintenance programme. This is to keep your home safe and efficient.
What you can do:
- Report faults immediately: If you notice any issues such as flickering lights, scorch marks around sockets, or a burning smell from an electrical appliance (like kettles, toasters and TVs), please report it to us straight away.
- Don’t do your own electrics: Never carry out your own electrical repairs or installations. Always used a qualified electrician.
- Use appliances safely: Don’t overload plug sockets. Be mindful of where you place appliances and avoid putting cables under your carpets or in high traffic areas where they could be damaged.
- Check your appliances: Regularly check your appliances are in good condition. Look for frayed cables or damaged plugs.
- Don’t block ventilation: Make sure appliances like fridges and freezers have enough space around them so air can circulate and prevent overheating.
- Register your appliances: We recommend you register your new appliances with the manufacturer so they can notify you if an appliance is recalled for a safety reason.
