Man knocking on front door with a van next to him

We’ve partnered with the HELP scheme from Harrogate and District Community Action (HADCA) to launch a one-year pilot project aimed at helping Leeds Federated customers with small jobs around their home.

HADCA is an independent charity supporting people living in the Harrogate district. The HELP service focuses on helping people to stay safe and well at home, which aligns with our own social purpose to help people make a home.

What support is available

Through our partnership HELP will provide practical, trusted support around the home for Leeds Federated customers living in Harrogate, Ripon and Knaresborough.

Support includes things like:

  • An annual garden tidy up
  • Painting, basic DIY and small repairs
  • Odd jobs e.g. moving furniture, fitting a key safe or grab rail, clearing out a shed, taking items to the tip, changing lightbulbs or fuses, protecting pipework in cold weather etc.

The HELP handyperson and volunteers are all trained and DBS-checked, offering a trusted service to make your life a little easier.

Andy [the handyperson] was so knowledgeable and knew exactly what needed doing.”

Why have we set up this partnership

As your landlord, we’re responsible for repairing issues with the structure of your home and those that impact health and safety. We also know for many people it’s often the little jobs that we’re not responsible for that cause the biggest worries – that’s why we’re pleased to promote the HELP service as there’s no job too small if it helps you feel safe and comfortable where you live.

We’re really pleased to partner with a local organisation that aligns with our own values and purpose. Through this partnership we hope more Leeds Federated customers will be able to get the support they need to live the lives they want at home.”

Costs and how you can apply

The service costs £25 per hour, plus the cost of any materials – this is payable to the HELP service. There’s no charge for travel time or VAT and HELP will always discuss any costs up front, as well as taking into account your own personal circumstances. As a charity, HELP reinvests all the income they receive back into the service.

HELP work on outdoor jobs in summer and indoor jobs in winter, fitting in odd jobs between larger projects. The length of the waiting list may vary but HELP will get to you as soon as possible and will always call ahead to check the timing works for you.
