Tree planting at Belle Isle

12 Mar 2025

Through our community-based approach, we’re finding new ways to increase our presence in local communities and make a positive impact on our customers, local businesses, and charities.

Recently, our Neighbourhood Officer, Sharon Lanceley, coordinated a community event in Belle Isle where members of Leeds Federated rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty planting trees in Woodville Square.

In collaboration with Leeds City Council, BITMOs Gate and Fruit Works, a social enterprise that helps communities in Bradford and Leeds to plant and maintain fruit trees, the team planted a total of 7 fruit trees, including cherry, apple, plum, and pear.

They also planted 5 large non-fruiting trees, to enhance the area's greenery and create a welcoming space for both our customers and local residents.

Before planting the trees, a few members of the team did some litter picking around the area to help keep it clean and tidy.

Sharon encourages all Leeds Federated customers in the area to help look after the trees, so they can thrive for years to come.

She says, “As they grow, we hope the community will enjoy the beauty they bring - and even the fresh fruit they provide.

If you’re a customer living in Woodville Square, why not keep an eye on them and play a part in helping Belle Isle blossom.”

We’re also pleased to share that the new Belle Isle Community Noticeboard is now up. Organised by BITMOs Gate, we contributed £600 towards the board, and it will provide a dedicated space for customers and the local community to stay informed, share feedback and connect with neighbours.

The Belle Isle Neighbourhood Plan will also be on display on the board, which Sharon has been collaborating with customers and other people in the community.
