We planted 50 trees to celebrate our 50th anniversary of helping people make a home.

Colleagues and residents from our older persons schemes at Cragside Close and Fewston Court joined the celebrations on Friday 13 March, helping to plant 10 trees to mark the occasion.

We reached our 50‑year milestone across 2024/2025 and have spent the past two years marking the occasion with a series of community‑focused activities.

As part of the celebrations, our Community Spaces team raised a total of £1600 in donations from its partner organisations, including Fast Waste Solutions Ltd, Matt Sellars Tree Surgeon, Atlas FM Cleaning, White Horse Cleaning Services, and PlaceShapers.

The team has been busy planting a variety of trees from Amelanchiers, Hawthorns, Beech, Rowans, Yews and even Cherry blossom across Leeds, Wakefield, and North Yorkshire. They carefully selected sustainable locations to ensure the trees can thrive in years to come.

Giving back to the community

The incentive for our tree planting was to celebrate the momentous anniversary of ‘50 years of Leeds Federated. For each year we have planted one tree, and this was made possible by generous donations from our colleagues, contractors, and partner organisations. It was great to see residents join in with the planting too. I want to extend my thanks to our Grounds Maintenance teams for their work that enabled us to mark our milestone in a way that is meaningful, sustainable, and rooted in giving something back to our customers.

“As the trees grow, they’ll stand as a reminder of how far we’ve come and how much more we hope to achieve in the next 50 years.
