As part of our community-based approach we’ve been listening to customers and finding out what they’d like to see improved in their community, and working to find a solution.
So, when the vibrant communities at Ingle Court and Cragside Close told us they’d like to get together and be more active, we looked at different options. We then came up with the joint idea of a taster day of activities and games.
The session included darts, bowling and basketball – all with seated options to make the activities inclusive for everyone.
After the session, one customer said, “The ball game was very good. It got us focusing and using our limbs.”
Our Support Co-ordinator, Kescia Awork, set up the day and said: “The taster day went down a treat. Everyone loved it!
“We’re now busy arranging a tea and cake afternoon with everyone at Ingle Court and Cragside Close. This will be to find out what they might want to try next. Once they’ve decided, we can access a Community Grant through our Customer Engagement Team. This could also fund a block of activity sessions. We’re listening to customers and making it happen!”
Our Customer Engagement Manager, Louise Darby also added “Customers know what they like and often trying something out is the best way to find out how it will work. We have small pots of money to help fund the start-up of activities or events that could be community led or initiated by customers.”

The importance of place
We know home is much more than bricks and mortar. Home is about belonging, community and place. In this leaflet you can find out more about what we're doing to nurture communities and build a sense of place.
