Boosting customers income!

30 Jan 2024

Get in touch with our Money Matters team to find out if we could help you.

One of our customers, who is of pension age, contacted Leeds Federated to ask if we could help, as his cooker had stopped working and as he was struggling financially, he couldn’t afford a new one.

After a first appointment with Emma from the Money Matters Team and due to the customer’s health conditions, we helped them with a claim for Attendance Allowance, which is a disability benefit. We also helped the customer get the correct medical supporting evidence required and further supported them with a food voucher.

They got Enhanced Attendance Allowance, and we then helped them with a successful Guaranteed Pension Credit Claim, along with successful backdating of both, giving our customer a substantial lump sum payment.

The yearly increase in our customer’s benefits is £9,263.80!

Following the award of Guaranteed Pension Credit, we also got them a grant for £400, with which we helped them order a new electric cooker with full delivery and installation.

Did you know? The Money Matters Team have supported 499 customers so far this year and have helped increase customers' income by a huge £225,000!

Could We Help You?

The Money Matters team can help you with advising you on:

  • Benefits to live on and to help pay your rent
  • Extra benefits if you have an illness or disability for example Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • Benefits for older people like Pension Credit and Attendance Allowance

Up to £2.1 billion of pension credit is unclaimed by around 880,000 eligible households! Attendance Allowance is a benefit for people over state pension age. If you have a long-term physical or mental condition or disability, it doesn't matter what your condition is – what matters is how it affects you. If you need help with personal care, or need support to check you're ok, you may be eligible.

You don’t need someone to be caring for you to claim. With an Attendance Allowance award, you could also get extra Pension Credit, guaranteed Pension Credit, Housing Benefit and Council Tax support, and it won’t negatively affect any other benefits that you are claiming or anyone else in your household!

Attendance Allowance can also help you claim a disabled person’s railcard or support an application for a Blue Badge.

• A Guaranteed Pension Credit Claim award leads claimants to full Housing Benefit and full Council Tax support.

• Pension Credit awards lead customers to extra help with your heating costs (the warm home discount), the Government's Cost of Living Payments, help with NHS dental costs and glasses, transport costs for hospital appointments and free TV Licence if you are over 75.

• If you have a carer, they may be able to claim Carers Allowance, or the carers element of Universal Credit, depending on their circumstances.
