We’ve had recent reports of doorstep callers putting pressure on people to make compensation claims for work needed on their homes – this type of doorstep caller is called a ‘claims farmer’.
As well as going door-to-door, ‘claims farmers’ might also target our customers through adverts on social media, phone calls or texts. Some will let you believe they’re working for us, but they’re not.
How to check we're who we say we are
If you want to check whether someone is working on our behalf, or if messaging is really from us, you can:
-
Ask to see their ID badge. APS, Equans, Sure Maintenance, and Savilles carry out work on our behalf but will carry joint-branded ID.
- Check the phone number. We’ll call you from a Leeds-based phone number which starts with ‘0113’. We never call from withheld phone numbers. The phone numbers we usually text from are: 07908 250809 and 85123.
You can phone us on 0113 386 1000 to double check whether ID badges, phone calls, texts, letters or adverts are legitimate.
Still thinking of making a claim?
We know ‘claim farmers’ encourage customers to make compensation claims by offering the possibility of payouts at the end of the process. In reality, very little of the money, if any, is seen by the customer who’s brought the claim in their name and it’s important to remember, if claims are unsuccessful, customers can be left with large legal bills.
From our perspective, the more legal costs we have to pay to
external law firms, the less money we have to reinvest in customer homes.
We’d encourage you to talk to us first. If you’re not happy with a repair or outstanding repair, let us know by calling 0113 386 1000 or emailing
hello@leedsfed.com.
Talk to our team, or raise a complaint, and we’ll work with you to put things right.
