Statement
RE: Audit
Commission inspection
Date: January 2008
All of us at Leeds
Fed are naturally very disappointed with the result of this
inspection and we have robustly challenged many of its findings.
The Audit Commission, to its credit, has accepted some of these
objections and adjusted its report
accordingly.
As an organisation we
are strongly committed to improving our service to tenants and in
fact many of the improvements recommended by the inspectors
following the Inspection in January 2007 were already well underway
at that time.
The result of this is
evident in our performance figures for 2006/07 in which we have
moved up into the next quartile of performing associations in five
out of a potential eight comparative Housing Corporation
performance indicators.
Much of the data that
was used in the report, however, was from 2005/06 and whilst it may
portray a fair picture of the association at the time we do not
feel it reflects how far we have come since, or the direction in
which we are heading.
The fact remains
however that the overall rating reflects poorly on the reputation
of Leeds Fed and the contribution that it has made to housing and
regeneration in some of the toughest neighbourhoods in the city
over the last 30 years. We look forward to an early re-inspection
of our services by the Audit Commission, and in the meantime intend
to carry on improving services for our customers, using all the
determination, passion and resources we have
available.
